What is inside an MLAY device, and why it is built that way.

Every MLAY device is built around the same idea: put enough energy into the follicle to stop it, and take enough heat out of the skin that the person holding it does not flinch. The engineering below is how that gets done.

Intense pulsed light

IPL is broad-spectrum light, filtered to the band that melanin absorbs most readily. The pigment in the hair shaft converts that light to heat, the heat travels down to the follicle, and the follicle stops producing. Skin around it, carrying far less pigment, absorbs far less energy — which is why the filter matters more than the raw power.

MLAY devices filter to 510–1200nm for hair removal. Shorter wavelengths reach the shallow, fine hair a longer filter misses; the upper end reaches the deep-rooted coarse hair a shorter one cannot.

Independent ice cooling

A cold plate cools until it warms up. An independent cooling circuit keeps cooling. MLAY’s ice-cooling models run a refrigeration circuit of their own, separate from the lamp, so the glass reaches roughly 15 °C within ten seconds of start-up and holds there through a full pass. Measured against a 35 °C skin sensation, that difference is what turns a session that has to be endured into one that does not.

Interchangeable heads

One handset, three filters. Hair removal at 510–1200nm, skin renewal at 560–1200nm and a dark spot and acne-mark head at 400–700nm, where blue light targets blemishes and red light evens tone. Swapping the head changes what the device does without changing what the customer has to buy.

Skin-tone sensing

A sensor in the head reads the skin it is resting on before it fires. Too dark, and it does not fire: melanin in the skin would absorb energy meant for the hair. This is a safety interlock, not a convenience feature, and it cannot be overridden.

Contact sensing

The lamp only fires when the window is flat against the skin. Lifted away, it stops — which protects the eyes without relying on the user remembering the goggles, and stops energy being wasted into the air.

Energy and flash rate

Output is adjustable in five steps so the same device suits a first session on the face and a full pass on the legs. In continuous mode a flash every 0.5 seconds turns a full-body treatment into minutes rather than a sitting.
